Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme South Africa 2018 – 2019

ABOUT THE COMPANY – SITFE

The Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education (SITFE) was founded as a private sector initiative in the year 1965, and is currently one of South Africa’s oldest Trust Funds. The SITFE’s main aim is to promote and support high quality, sustainable education within the sugarcane growing areas of South Africa.

Since its inception, the organisation has provided support for a range of educational programmes and projects, from bursaries; to arts and culture; teacher development and infrastructure development. Bursaries have been allocated to more than 10 000 learners, as well as funding for school building projects, tertiary institution financial support for working alongside specialist educational organizations.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

SITFE provides bursary funding to students residing within KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, South Africa’s sugarcane growing provinces. Bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:

  • Agriculture
  • Engineering
  • Science

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Reside in KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga
  • Registered or applied to study in one of the aforementioned faculties at a University/ University of Technology/ College of Agriculture, OR
  • The child of a sugarcane farm worker who has registered or applied in their chosen field of study at a University/ University of Technology/ College of Agriculture
  • *Preference will be given to students from rural communities

Please note which Universities and Colleges bursary awards may be redeemed at:
TUT Bursaries: Students may study at the Tshwane University of Technology only,
SITFE/UNITE Bursaries: Students may study at the Tshwane University of Technology only,
University Merit Bursaries: Students may study at the University of Zululand and the University of KwaZulu-Natal only,
Agricultural Bursaries: Students may study at the Cedara College of Agriculture, the University of Mpumalanga and the Owen Sithole College of Agriculture only,
University of Technology Merit Bursaries: Students may study at the Mangosuthu University of Technology and Durban University only,

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Download and complete the SITFE Bursary Application Form (pdf).

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Proof of parents/ guardians income (payslips/ pension statement/ affidavit in unemployed) OR death certificate is parents are deceased
  • Proof of connection to the sugar industry (if applicable)
  • Matric students must add:
    • Latest school report
    • Final exam results (if available)
    • Proof of application/ registration to a tertiary institution
  • Tertiary students must add:
    • Latest exam results
